Ode To Kirihito

17 03 2010

Well what I have to review this time is Osamu Tezuka’s “Ode To Kirihito: Part One” which was kindly sent to me by those awesome people over at Vertical Inc. If you aren’t already aware Tezuka was one of the single largest influences there has ever been on the manga industry with his best known works being “Astro Boy” and “Kimba The White Lion”, his pioneering techniques laid the foundations for the manga we know today, earning him the title “The God Of Manga”. Halo Legends: A Failure In Marketing?

26 02 2010

As you may know, Halo Legends, an anthology of seven animated stories based upon the Halo universe was released last week. To say that Halo is big is an understatement of the highest degree, the Halo brand is a force of nature. If a Halo game is coming out then you can be sure that game will be one of, if not THE best-selling game of that year. And so you can understand that when I entered my local HMV (for those in the US it’s a chain music store much like Best Buy), which happens to be the only place that to my knowledge sells anime in Belfast, I was fully expecting, in the game section at least, to be confronted by a wall of Halo Legends advertising. I was sorely wrong. Read the rest of this entry »

“But the Boys Will Look Even Prettier on Bluray!”: An Opinion on the Gundam Unicorn Release

24 02 2010

Another day, another Twitter debate, this time on the subject of Gundam Unicorn. If you don’t already know, Gundam Unicorn, the latest installment of the much extended Gundam franchise, is only being released in the US on Bluray. Whilst bluray is the new up and coming format with the PS3 being a popular choice amongst anime fans many are excluded due to a lack of a bluray player. Therefore some have decided that they would resort to fansubs to get their Gundam fix. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh! My Brother

24 02 2010

“Oh! My Brother”, a title that struck fear in my heart when I first opened the box from CMX. It conjured in my mind images of horrible series about those uncomfortable and rather creepy romances between a brother and sister, who in the majority of cases are underage. So you can expect that it was with some trepidation that I started to read it, luckily however, “Oh! My Brother” does disappoint in regards to creepy incest. Sort of. It was in November 1977 that the 13 year old Megumi Yokota disappeared off the face of the planet on her way home from a badminton practice in her school in Niigata, Japan. It’s All About The Killing

29 11 2009

There are few larger names in the world of manga than Kazuo Koike. One of the most respected manga writers of all time, he is as it happens one of the craziest bringing you such classics as Samurai Executioner, Offered and The Wounded Man. However this time I’m going to be reviewing one of Koike’s most famous and sanest works (which unfortunately doesn’t feature a girl pissing on a guy to wash some blood out of his eyes), “Lone Wolf and Cub”.
